Dilip Doshi, the former Indian cricketer, sadly passed away at 77 from a cardiac arrest in London on Monday. Known for his classical left-arm spin, he played for India in 33 Test matches and 15 ODIs between 1979 and 1983. Throughout his career, he took 114 wickets in Tests and 22 in ODIs.
Doshi made his international debut in the first Test match of Australia’s tour of India in 1979, held in Chennai. He took six wickets for 103 runs in the first innings, finishing with eight for 167 overall in that match. Doshi is among just nine Indian men to achieve a five-wicket haul on their Test debut.
He played First Class cricket for Saurashtra and Bengal in India.
He also represented Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire in County Cricket. In First Class cricket, he took a total of 898 wickets.
“The BCCI is saddened by the passing of former India spinner, Dilip Doshi, who has sadly left us in London. May he rest in peace”, the Board of Control for Cricket in India shared on X.
