Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla is set for his Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station, with a launch date now targeted for June 25, as announced by NASA on Tuesday (June 24, 2025).
The Axiom-4 mission, signifying India’s, Hungary’s, and Poland’s return to space, was previously set to launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on June 25 at 12:01 p.m. IST on Wednesday, aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
“NASA, Axiom Space, and SpaceX are aiming for a launch at 2:31 a.m. EDT (12:01 IST) on Wednesday, June 25, for the fourth private astronaut mission to the International Space Station, known as Axiom Mission 4”, according to a statement from NASA.
The Axiom-4 commercial mission is headed by Commander Peggy Whitson, with Mr. Shukla serving as the mission pilot, alongside Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu and Poland’s Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski as mission specialists.
Initially, the mission was set to launch on May 29, but it got delayed to June 8, then to June 10, and finally June 11, after engineers found a liquid oxygen leak in the Falcon-9 rocket’s boosters. NASA also discovered leaks in the aging Russian module of the International Space Station.
The launch was rescheduled for June 19, and then again for June 22, but this was postponed to give NASA time to assess the ISS operations following repairs to the Russian module.
The mission is set to launch from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The crew will head to the orbiting lab aboard a new SpaceX Dragon spacecraft after taking off on the company’s Falcon 9 rocket.
According to NASA, the planned docking time is around 7 am (4:30 p.m. IST) on Thursday, June 26.
