At least seven people have been killed and numerous others have been injured in two separate bridge collapses that occurred overnight in Russian territories that border Ukraine.
Late on Saturday, the regional governor reported that a road bridge collapsed near Bryansk, allowing many large vehicles to board a moving passenger train.
According to emergency services, at least seven persons lost their lives. Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported that at least 47 people, including a child, were admitted to the hospital.
On Telegram, Moscow Railway claimed that “illegal interference” was the reason the bridge collapsed.
Alexander Khinshtein, the acting governor, reported that a locomotive train was derailed in the Zheleznogorsk district a few hours later when a second bridge collapsed.
According to Khinshtein, a driver was hurt in the legs when the train caught fire.
Khinshtein posted on Telegram, “We’ll figure out what caused the bridge to fall. Every emergency service is present at the location. I am controlling the situation”.
Ukraine has not yet responded, and it is unknown if the two disasters in the nearby regions are connected.

According to the office of the interregional transport prosecutor in Moscow, an investigation has been opened.
According to the authorities, the road bridge collapsed into the train, causing the locomotive and many carriages to derrail.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, more emergency personnel have been dispatched to the region, along with rescue tools and light towers for nighttime operations.
According to officials, the train was in the Vygonichsky area and traveling from the village of Klimovo to Moscow when it collapsed.
According to Moscow Railway, passengers were evacuated and sent to a rendezvous at a nearby station. “They will be able to continue their journey on a specially designated reserve train”, that was going from Bryansk to Moscow, the statement added.
