Google is introducing new Generative AI features to users’ Gmail inboxes, enabling access to AI summaries, a fresh AI inbox, and email writing tools that transform text prompts into more comprehensive messages.
In a blog post, Google revealed that Gmail users will be able to view AI Overviews of their inbox contents, much like how the results summarization feature operates in Google Search.
AI overviews in Gmail will allow users to see lengthy conversations as a brief summary of key points and also answer questions.
Even though everyone has access to AI Overview conversation summaries, only Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers are able to use AI Overviews to send questions to their inbox.
Additionally, Gmail’s AI-driven ‘Help Me Write’ and ‘Suggested Replies’ features will be made available to all users for free, while the ‘Proofread’ feature is exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
These email tools assist users in drafting complete emails from simple text prompts or enhancing previous email drafts.
Google mentioned that many of the enhancements and new features are powered by the company’s Gemini 3 model.
Moreover, Google has announced a new AI Inbox that is currently being tested by select users.
The AI Inbox aims to help users prioritize tasks derived from their emails and contacts while minimizing clutter. For example, depending on the needs of the day, users can get reminders for medical appointments and bill payments.
The AI Inbox is set to be accessible to a larger audience in the next few months.
The new features are beginning to launch in English for users in the U.S., including Gmail users and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Global and multi-language rollouts are expected to take place in the upcoming months.
