The Ministry of Railways is gearing up to launch bullet train services on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, aiming for trains to run every 15 to 20 minutes in the initial phase.

During a press conference at Rail Bhawan on Friday (January 2, 2026), Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw mentioned that during peak hours, the bullet train will operate every 15-20 minutes at first.

He also mentioned that this frequency will eventually increase to every 10 minutes during busy times, depending on how many passengers there are.

“Once the MAHSR corridor is fully operational, trains will run every 15-20 minutes during peak hours. We’re also looking to cut that down to 10 minutes based on demand. This will kick off a new era of transportation in the country”, Vaishnaw stated.

Vaishnaw further explained that the bullet train project is expected to have a significant positive impact on the Indian economy.

He pointed out that once the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is up and running, the travel time between these two cities will drop to under two hours.

On Friday, India’s first bullet train route hit a significant milestone with the completion of a mountain tunnel in Palghar district, Maharashtra.

There are eight mountain tunnels being built right now, with seven in Maharashtra and one in Gujarat.
