The first sleeper coach maintenance facility for the Vande Bharat train in the country is set to be completed by mid-2026 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, as stated by a senior official from North Western Railway.
This modern facility at Bhagat Ki Kothi Railway station is being built with an investment of ₹360 crore.
The initial phase of the maintenance and workshop depot, which features a 600-metre track to service 24 sleeper coaches of the Vande Bharat trains, is expected to be finished by June 2026.
The second phase, which will include a 178-metre track along with a workshop and simulator facility, is projected to be completed by June 2027.
The first phase is estimated to cost ₹167 crore, while the second phase will amount to ₹195 crore.
Additionally, the facility will incorporate a specialized wheel rack system and a testing laboratory equipped with the latest simulators for training and assessing high-tech equipment, showcasing Indian Railways’ commitment to precision, safety, and performance.
The North Western Railway is overseeing the project in collaboration with Railway Vikas Nigam Limited and Kinet Railway Solution, a joint venture between India and Russia, as technology partners.
This facility will specifically maintain the sleeper coaches of the Vande Bharat trains, which are set to be launched soon.
The project will feature a three-tier inspection system for these coaches.
Bijwasan railway station in Delhi, Thanisandra railway station in Bengaluru, Anand Vihar in Delhi, and Wadi Bandar in Mumbai are the locations of four more facilities under development.
