The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in Kumbakonam is about to roll out 10 ultra low entry (ULE) buses on certain routes in Trichy.
These buses are going to operate on 15 chosen routes, starting with a base fare of ₹11. The highest fare will be ₹40.
A total of four buses will run from the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Integrated Bus Terminus in Panjapur to Samayapuram, passing through No. 1 Tollgate.
Two buses will be available for the Panjapur-Srirangam route (via Thillai Nagar), IBT Panjapur to Chathiram Bus Stand (via Thillai Nagar), IBT Panjapur to Thuvakudi, Chathiram Bus Stand to Bharathidasan University, Chathiram Bus Stand to Thuvakudi , Chathiram Bus Stand to Pettavaithalai and ,Central Bus Stand to Viralimalai .
One bus will operate on the IBT Panjapur to Chathiram Bus Stand via Woraiyur – IBT Panjapur to Chathiram Bus Stand via Palakkarai, Chathiram Bus Stand to K.K. Nagar via Palakkarai , Airport to Srirangam via Central Bus Stand/Thillai Nagar , Chathiram Bus Stand to Ponmalaipatti , Chathiram Bus Stand to Manachanallur and , Chathiram Bus Stand to Lalgudi routes.
Although such ultra low entry buses have been in operation in Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore, they are now being launched in Trichy, according to a press release from TNSTC.
The low floor buses, which have a floor height of 400 mm, will make it easier for people with disabilities, elderly individuals, women, and children to get on and off the buses. The footboard can be lowered by 60 mm using a ‘kneeling system’, greatly enhancing accessibility for passengers with mobility challenges.
Additionally, these buses are equipped with a ramp to assist wheelchair users in boarding and alighting.
These buses will feature numerous safety elements and will only operate when the automated doors are securely closed. They come with rear view cameras, automatic gearboxes, blind spot mirrors, and a sensor based fire detection and suppression system.
An LED display board along with an audio visual system will notify passengers of the next stop ahead of time. The buses are designed with wider cushioned seats, larger windows for improved ventilation, and an extended length to provide more interior space.
