At Saturday’s (May 31, 2025) 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, sprinter Animesh Kujur and hurdler Vithya Ramraj each added a bronze medal to the nation’s total, while rising Indian javelin thrower Sachin Yadav put on an outstanding display to win the silver medal.
Arshad Nadeem, the current Olympic champion, won the gold with a best effort of 86.40, and the 25-year-old Yadav finished behind him with a personal best performance, sending his spear to 85.16 meters.

Originating from a family of farmers in Khekra village, located near Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav previously achieved a personal best of 84.39m.
Yashvir Singh also made a strong impression, reaching a personal best of 82.57m to secure fifth place.
Kujur had earlier opened the scoring for India on the last day of competitions by winning the bronze in the men’s 200-meter final.

Kujur delivered an impressive performance, breaking the national record with a time of 20.32 seconds.
At the National Federation Senior Athletics Competition earlier this year, the 21-year-old beat his previous record of 20.40 seconds.
Towa Uzawa of Japan claimed first place with a time of 20.12 seconds, and Abdulaziz Abdu I Atafi of Saudi Arabia came in second with a time of 20.31 seconds.
Asian Games medalist Vithya glided effortlessly over the 400m hurdles to secure a spot on the podium.
The 26-year-old athlete from Tamil Nadu placed third with a time of 56.46 seconds.

Mo Jiadie of China won gold in 55.31 seconds, defeating Oluwakemi Adekoya of Bahrain, who came in second in 55.32 seconds. The other Indian competitor, Anu Raghavan, finished seventh in the race in 57.46 seconds.
In the final of the women’s 200m event, Jyoti Yarraji secured fifth place with a time of 23.47 seconds, whereas Nithya Gandhe finished seventh with a time of 23.90 seconds. Earlier in the week, Yarraji had achieved a gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.
