On Thursday, June 26, Google introduced a new app named Doppl that allows you to try on clothes right from your couch. This app is part of Google Labs, which is the tech giant’s initiative for users to explore new and experimental features. According to the company, the app “allows you to easily and enjoyably visualize any outfit on a digital, animated version of yourself”.
Last month, Google Shopping revealed that users can try on “billions of clothing items” just by uploading a photo. In a blog post, the tech giant mentioned that the new Doppl app enhances these features and adds several new ones, such as the ability to transform static images into visuals, allowing users to see how an outfit might look through AI-generated videos.
Users can also save their favorite looks, browse through them, and even share with others. If users spot an outfit they like, whether from a friend, a local thrift store, or social media, Google says they can snap a picture and use Doppl to see how it would look on them. Currently, the app allows you to try on items like tops, bottoms, and dresses. Just so you know, shoes, lingerie, bathing suits, and accessories aren’t available for try-on right now.
Even though the new app is still in its testing phase, the tech giant mentions that it may not always nail down details like looks and clothing accurately. This implies that the app could occasionally “fill in the gaps” of an outfit if some pieces are missing. For instance, if you upload a photo of just a shirt, Doppl will create an image that adds pants, shoes, and accessories to complete the outfit.
Doppl is available on both Android and iOS, but right now, it’s only for folks in the United States. Plus, it’s still a mystery whether the company will roll it out to other areas.
Earlier this year, Glance, a well-known AI-focused software company, released Glance AI, an app that helps users find new products using AI.
