Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at a Mumbai hospital. She was 92.
Asha Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11 with severe exhaustion and a chest infection.
According to the hospital, she passed away due to multi-organ failure, which was further complicated by cardiac arrest and pulmonary issues.
The Voice Of A Legend
Asha Bhosle was born in Sangli, Maharashtra, as the younger sister of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Music ran in the family, setting the stage for her future career.
She began her singing career at just 10 years old. Her debut was in the Marathi film Majha Bal (1943), where she showed early promise.
In 1948, Bhosle entered Hindi cinema. She recorded her first solo song in Chunariya, marking the start of a long Bollywood journey.
In 1949, her sister Lata gained nationwide fame with Aayega aane wala from Mahal, highlighting the Mangeshkar family’s musical dominance.

Her funeral will take place on Monday. Finally, the last rites are scheduled to take place at Shivaji Park at 4 PM. The public can pay their respects at her residence from 11 am.
