Madikeri Fort And Raja’s Seat

Welcome to Coorg (also known as Kodagu), the high-altitude home of pepper, cardamom, and an endless stream of Instagram reels featuring fog transitions. While Madikeri Fort may not match the splendor of Mysuru, it has its own unique history, complete with British-era structures and misty ramparts.

Close by is Raja’s Seat, a scenic spot where the kings of Coorg used to enjoy the sunset. Aim to visit around 5 PM when the fog sets in, making everything look absolutely stunning.

Bylakuppe (Way To Coorg)

Take an unexpected side trip into Bylakuppe, a Tibetan community that feels like a slice of Dharamshala has been plopped down in Karnataka. The highlight here is the Namdroling Monastery, where enormous Buddha statues sit calmly, golden dragons twist along the walls, and chanting monks create a soothing atmosphere. It’s tranquil, dreamlike, and has a subtle scent of incense. Make sure to grab some momos from one of the local spots before you go.

Nisargadhama

Picture a forest island filled with hanging bridges, bamboo groves, and deer peeking through the trees, plus picnic tables that haven’t hosted a spreadsheet in ages. That’s Kaveri Nisargadhama for you, a charming little nature reserve close to Kushalnagar that’s both quirky and soothing. You can find paddle boats, elephant rides and even treetop cottages if you feel like being Tarzan for a night. It’s the perfect mid journey escape – no WiFi, no deadlines, just the sounds of the wind and kids yelling on a zipline.

Srirangapatna

About 20 km ahead of Mysuru is Srirangapatna, a historic island town where Tipu Sultan fought against the British and nearly triumphed. You can check out his summer palace, the Gumbaj where he is buried, and  Ranganatha swamy Temple, which is still in use and over 1,000 years old.

Mysuru Palace

The Mysuru Palace, a true architectural marvel. With its Indo-Saracenic design, golden domes, and a lighting ceremony that transforms the whole palace into a dazzling display every Sunday night, it’s both grand and a bit over the top. Inside, you can look forward to luxury, stained glass ceilings, Belgian mirrors, and a whole lot more.
